My brand new 13-inch MacBook Air (2019) shows a full charge capacity of 4406 mAh. My 2014 MacBook Air had a full charge capacity of 7015 mAh. Should I be worried? Is it likely that my new model has a defective or recycled battery?

There hasn't necessarily been that much of performance increases with newer Intel processors, but newer processors have similar performance while using less power - especially when going to a smaller "fabrication process node". Also, power management is more sophisticated. A lot more can be done with less power, and as such a smaller battery can last just as long or longer.

No need to worry, just a smaller battery in these newer models.

You're quite welcome. I haven't really tested mine to check the 10 hour claim, but in day to day use, I have been very pleased with battery performance.
