POS Requiring  Cash Expiration Date??

Today I was asked for an expiration date when attempting to make a purchase with Apple Cash (not Apple Card). Apple Cash of course has no expiration date, and even a quick chat with Apple support didn’t produce a workaround, although Apple Support will be calling me in the morning so I still have some hope there. The store’s POS had no way of bypassing. Any ideas? Or has anyone else had this experience with a better result?
