updating expiration date on credit card in apple pay

My credit card on file in apple pay expired last month, and I can't seem to update the exp date. I've tried to delete it, but unless I add another card I can't delete it. There doesn't seem to be anywhere that I can update the exp date. I've tried adding it in as another form of payment, but because it's the same number, it shows it as a duplicate.

Hello mckmadia,

If I'm understanding you right, the credit card you use with Apple Pay expired and you have been unable to update the expiration date on your device. I'm happy to help you out with this.

As you'll see in the following support article, manually editing the expiration date for credit cards in Apple Pay is not possible: Manage the cards that you use with Apple Pay. This is because the expiration date should update automatically when you get a new card. Removing your card and adding it again would be the next best step if the issuer of your card doesn't support updates and you should be able to remove the card without having to add a new one first. Make sure you're attempting to do so either within the Wallet app or in Settings. If you're doing it in the Wallet app, unlock your iPhone first and go directly to the app itself rather than accessing it from the iPhone Lock Screen or from Control Center as you won't see options to remove it when you do it that way. Here are the steps:

" To remove a card that you use on your iPhone or iPad, go to Settings > Wallet & Apple Pay, tap the card that you want to remove, then scroll down and tap Remove This Card.

Or open Wallet, tap a card, tap the menu button, then scroll down and tap Remove This Card."

If you're still experiencing problems removing your card, check to make sure this card is updated in all other places if it's currently being used as your Apple ID payment method: Change, add, or remove Apple ID payment methods. Also, try removing the card directly from iCloud if the issue persists: Remove cards from Apple Pay and Wallet in Settings on iCloud.com. This can also be in in Settings > [your name] > "This iPhone". Under the Apple Pay section you should see an option to Remove Card.
