File creation date question ?

I have looked into this and have seen issues with the date created being the time and date that the copies are created instead of when the photo was actually taken. Does the created date change to the time and date you transfer your entire library, or will each file retain it’s created date of image capture ?

The file created date and the EXIF image creation date are two separate items. The image created date is embedding the image file and always remains the same (unless manually changed or stripped from the field). The file created date will change when the file is copied to another volume and at other times.

Each photo has metadata which contains the time and date of the image capture. And this piece of data reflects the time and day that the camera was set to. There are ways to edit this metadata, but it typically does not change simply by moving the file around.

Files whether they are photos or not, have creation and modification dates and times. Those will change when files are moved or duplicated, or edited.

Now if an image was created without a camera or if someone gets an photo where the metadata has been removed, then things can go haywire. If there is no metadata, some programs try to fill it in with file creation or modification dates. I think this latter issue causes a lot of heartache for Photos users.
