I left both airpods out of the case without charging. Both started with a 100% last evening and now the Right is at 22% and the left is at 36%. Microphone is set to automatic. SO why is the battery drain not even?

I appreciate you including that you've already checked the microphone settings for the AirPods, it's most helpful to know. While it may not be possible to determine the cause of the additional battery consumption, I'd suggest trying these steps, then test your AirPods again:
