Is apple watch series 2 compatible with iPhone 6?

Hello!

I am looking to buy an apple watch. However, I was informed in the apple store today that series 3 is not compatible with an iPhone 6 anymore because of some new update which refuses a connection to iPhone 6's and older, despite previously being compatible. Would an apple watch series 2 be compatible with an iPhone 6?
