MacBook Pro 16" screen ghosting

Hi,

We are planning to upgrade our MacBook fleet to MBP 16" but have postponed the order due heavily increased number of complains about sound "Pop" and Screen Ghosting.

Are these problems known to Apple? I cannot find any information.

Google search: "Macbook pro 16 problems"

or

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/16-macbook-pro-ghosting.2212842/

As soon as these problems are solved we will order new MBP.

Regards

Stephan

I have now tested several 16" and it seems to be small difference between them. It could be screen settings.

There are different tools to help to spot ghosting but I found the simplest way to scroll white text on black background. Scroll slowly.

On my 2015 15" the text is scrolled without any trace. No ghosting what so ever.

One 2019 16" test the text was very blurry and hardly readable.

On another 2019 16" it was still a bit blurry but much much better. No problem to read the text. I found it acceptable.

I will conduct some more tests before order a new 16".

It is tempting to wait for next version av MBP but that one may introduce new snags.

I think if you found the screen OK, and many screens seam to be, the new 16" is a perfect machine.

Almost all snags from previous MBP are gone.

Hi Bjarte68,

I have had similar issues on my MBP 16 inch basemodel

Other than what you have discribed i've had major problems with playback of video from internet browsers. Furthermore i feel that the touchpad is working pretty bad, and is not integrated correctly as it was in the 2016 15''. I mainly use mine for music production in logic, and it keeps crashing the program resulting in me having to use my old MBP. Today after one month and 9 days i sent mine for a diagnostics/repair, because its pretty much unusable other than watching movies on it. I hope i can get my money back since its unuseable for me with the random crashing, and the blur giving me headaches.

Seems to be the GPU's don't work that well together, i hope they will fix this with a software update but right now, it seems like a complete waste to use 3300 dollars on the base version. (Price in Denmark)

I hope Apple will start to investigate the problem because it seems like alot of people are having major issues with their machines.

I received my 16" MacBook Pro in late December and am not experiencing the sound popping issue or the display issues that others have commented on. I will say, however, that during certain times- especially opening/closing applications- the machine seems to be very slightly lagging. This could just be a MacOS bug that Apple can easily address in a future update. I'm hoping that's all it is!

I buy 16" i9 few days later and i have this problem, when i compare display with my old 13" pro 2016, display is more blurry and have ghosting (worst latency) and so worst bright, i measure with display with profesional sonde and 16" have 450 nits in center and 420 nits in around and apple promise 500 nits. My old 13" have 540 nits (promis 500 nits too)

Display on 16" now is bad and worst when olders displays. I hope apple fix the production.

I am on a 16" MBP as well and experiencing this. By Ghosting what I mean is text on the screen "oozes" / "smears" like as if they are wet paint, esp. during smooth scrolling white text on black background. This is very apparent when I read thru forums (like https://forums.macrumors.com/forums/macbook-pro.90/) in dark mode. Very annoying and gives me a headache.

Apple, can you please confirm this is an issue and resolve it somehow? Perhaps this was a problem with the first few batches? I am an really early adopter (my unit's manufacturer date is 2019-10-24, before the machine itself was announced publicly!) and feel burnt by that. But my hope is high that Apple will fix this (or has already addressed this because the forums say that the newer panels ("SJA4" vs. A3/2/1) are better). Fingers crossed, but Apple needs to acknowledge the issue and not let the early adopters down.
