Are EGPU issues fixed in 10.15.2 Catalina

I have been holding off on upgrading to Catalina because of the issues I have seen posted regarding booting with an EGPU connected. I have a 2018 Mac mini with a Razer Core X EGPU box containing an RX580.

I was wondering if the latest update to Catalina (10.15.2) fixes these issues.

Unfortunately the latest 10.115.2 BREAKS the eGPU support which was introduced with 10.15.1

I'm using the ASUS XG-Station-Pro eGPU with MSI RX 5700 Mech OC + Mac Mini 2018.

I had to go back to doing what worked with the original Catalina release. Make sure the eGPU is turned off. Now turn on the 2018 Mac mini. Wait a minute or so for it to start up, THEN turn on the eGPU. The user login screen will then show and you can use the screen as normal.

Do not have the eGPU running when restarting the Mac mini - all you get is a "black screen of death". There might be a signal, but no image. Very frustrating. Consequently there is no Apple startup logo or progress bar.

Sheesh - does anyone bother to test these things?

I have a Mac Mini 2018 w/ a Sonnet eGPU 550w and a Vega 56. Periodically on boot I get no video thru the DisplayPort. I’ve tried a PRAM/NVRAM reset, powering off and on the eGPU or monitor, but more often than not I have to manually power off the mini, reboot and just hope it works.

This last time I manually powered off and on the eGPU while it sat there doing nothing and I then got a Apple Logo and a boot.

You are also not going to be able to use Disk Encryption as that apparently can only use the onboard HDMI out and not activate thunderbolt 3 (where the eGPU is). So yes, still some side effects.

Just adding my voice to the many,

We are running a fully spec'd Mac Mini (2018) coupled with a Sonnet BB 650 / Radeon Vega Frontier Edition (16GB Vega 64)

Recently updated to 10.15.3 in hopes that some bugs would be fixed.

They are not.

Still getting the black screen on boot up if eGPU is plugged in.

Patiently waiting for a more stable Catalina release.
