Connecting iPad (5/6 gen) to external HDD

I have a 9.7 iPad and want to use external HDD, of which I have 4 or 5, to the iPad. The HDD will be powered using a wall socket. What connector would I need to do this?

I was going to buy a new laptop to replace my old Windows laptop but the iPad is great to use and compliments my new 27" iMac.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Frank

Hello,

If you have an iPad (4th generation) then you cannot use an external hard disk as it stopped received updates several years ago. If you have an iPad (5th generation) and newer then you will need Apple's Lightning to USB 3 Adapter.
