Read receipt...

Why does it show my girlfriend that I have read her text when I have "read receipt" turned OFF on my iPhone 6s running the most current ios to date? I text a friend and asked him if it showed him when I read his text and he said that it only said delivered... so this is only happening in my conversation with my girlfriend? This is very odd.

Read Receipt has never been turned on, but people can see when I've read their texts iPhone 8 Plus. Latest OS version. Read receipt for iMessages has never been turned on, but several people have shown me (on their iPhones. Different phones. Different OSs) that they can see when I've read their iMessage. How is this possible? And how do I change it?

Sorry I finally figured this out. I did not realise you can turn on "send read receipts" for a specific person.
