can't log in to imessage on mac

I can't log into imessage on my mac - it's stuck on the sign in modal and I've verified my apple id and password are correct. I enter it and then click Next and nothing happens. ...any ideas?

iMessages stuck at sign-in on MacBook Air M1 Can't login at iMessages on MacBook Air M1(Monterey OS). On the login page I've entered AppleID and password and app is stuck at loading. I've tried reset, appleID sign-out and sign in again, iMessages turning off and on on my iPhone, reset date time, reseting system so basically everything that I've found online. This is my first time logging into iMessages (I've bought laptop yesterday) so its kinda bummer :( Any other suggestions?
