APPLE WATCH4 &IPHONE X - TEXT MESSAGES DON'T CLEAR ON APPLE WATCH

My apple watch will not clear text messages when they are opened on phone. They must be opened directly on watch to clear out. WHY?!

After last update my Apple Watch no longer shows text messages as read after reading them on iPhone 11 I am pretty sure before this last update to the Apple Watch, if I read my text messages on my phone it would not show unread messages on my Watch. I am now having to clear the "unread" texts on my Watch. Anybody else having this?

Messages not clearing off apple watch after being read on phone. Just got a new apple watch series 6 and set it up last night. Everything was running smoothly and now today I noticed after I read my text messages on my phone they are not being cleared from my watches notifications. I have already made sure all updates are done on both devices as well as restarted my iPhone. Any idea what my next step should be to remedy this solution? I have it set up to mirror my phone.

If you mean delete them on your watch, that is by design.

They must be deleted separately from your phone.
