How or what application do I need to open dmg files on my iPhone?

I'm not sure I understand the question, so let's see if we can clarify:

• Did you download the dmg file onto your iPhone and are wondering how to open it?

• What type of file/app did you download that was delivered in dmg format?

dmg files usually contain applications/physical disk information specific to MacOS, so the contents are generally not going to be readable by or compatible with iOS.

You can only place in your files app and then move it to a Mac via finder where you can unzip the container - DMG is a disc image file used in the main to compress and distribute desktop software including the MacOS operating system .

Nothing can be done with it other store it with iOS and although the download function in mobile Safari now works for documents , images and music to the files app , you can’t use it to install and circumvent the App Store secure walled garden for software .
