I agree. People on here are very anal about their phones and to the point that if they get a scratch on it from their stupidity they want a new one. I think that should be covered like a broken screen on the warranty. Make them pay for it. Nothing is 100% scratch proof no matter what you do to protect it. What are you going to do when your non apple case scratches the phone?

I going to take my phone back to the apple store and request a replacement. They can't sell a case that actually marks up the phone instead of protecting it.

I don't think he is lying, I just think a few scratches on a phone is a non-issue and definitely not a good reason to get a new phone. Next thing you know, people will want a free phone for dropping it themselves... oh wait! People already do that. Just goes to show, people will do anything to get something for nothing.

Apple has never, ever, EVER been known for their amazing phone protection, so I don't know why anyone would even have contemplated getting a Bumper case, let alone use one. If the case marks your phone, then get a refund. If you got it free, then demand a new case. Aside from that, getting a new phone is a whole lot of something for absolutely nothing. The only reason you would even dare to demand a new phone is because Apple subsequently is the maker of both products; otherwise, you wouldn't ask for a new phone from Apple if your iFrogz case scratched your phone, would you? Of course not. You're demonizing and punishing a company all because they decided to try something new that didn't work out too well. This is why Apple hates it's consumers; they're a bunch of whiny b **** (not aimed at those reasonable enough to not complain about menial stuff).

A case is not suppose to scratch a phone, it's suppose to protect it...what about that do you not understand? So what if the case is covering the scratch marks on the steel, what if I want to use my phone someday without the bumper? I'll have to do so with black marks/scratches all over the steel band. Also for resale purposes, etc...it's not cool! Are you seriously that stupid or did you just graduate from stupidist? If you bought a NEW car and it had scratches on a part of the car that wasn't seen unless you "opened it" would you still keep the car? Man suckers are born every second on here!

P.S. For those asking "how can plastic scratch or mark up stainelss steel"...there are certain areas INSIDE the bumper that is sharp and those sharp points/edges are rubbing up against the steel when the bumper is put on the phone. It doesn't take a genius (no pun intended Apple) to figure out that is what's causing it! I tried sanding down the edges with a fingernail file but no go, I can't even get the **** file in the holes lol.

EPIC FAIL APPLE...360 degrees! Btw...wonder why all the bumpers have been "unavailable" now for weeks? Figure it out lol...

Apparently you have the marks where the holes are in the band for the speaker jack. Did you ever stop to think that dirt and other material may have gotten into that hole and it isn't really the bumper causing the marks? Would be nice if you posted a picture of the so called scratches you have.

The bumper isn't capable either but if you get any dirt or specks of anything in there, and it will happen over time, it will scratch no matter what case you have on it.

I think there called deflector shields on Star Trek, but they were powered by dilithium crystals. Not a lithium ion battery, Apple is evil. I want my money back.

I'm sure nobody was trying to insult you. Any case, hard or soft has a chance to allow dust and dirt particles to work its way inside your case while in your pocket or sitting out on a table. I wipe my 3G and the case every time I put it together and find that it gets scratches as well. If you are using the bumpers all of the time, then it really is only a concern if you are reselling your phone. If that is the case.. include the bumper!

I've had my Bumper since I got my phone at the beginning of July. It works well for me, but I have noticed when the Bumper off to dock at night, it leaves "smudges" on the stainless steel band. A few quick wipes and it's all good again, but I'm curious as to why this happens. I haven't noticed any debris or anything on the inside of the Bumper. In any case, I ordered a iSkin Solo case last week and it should arrive in the next few days.

Ohhh! No! I took my bumper off and found a little hole in the stainless steel band.
It's right next to where the sim goes in. What can I do?
I'm taking it back to Apple and see if I can get new phone.

Next thing you'll know I'll have a scratch from the bumper.

I've had my bumper since launch when I purchased my iPhone and I too have scratches all along the outer metal band of my iPhone 4. If you look inside the case, you can see the ares on the hard plastic interior that are scratching the case. I think Apple really dropped the ball on quality control here both on the iPhone itself that we should even have to have a case to receive signal to begin with and that their cases are of such poor design.

Firstly, I don't have an iPhone 4 yet (or the free bumper) - getting it in the next few weeks. But after reading this thread, I feel that I need to point something out. I was lead to believe that Apple are giving out the bumper to help prevent the death grip issue, not to protect the phone, so is it any surprise that it doesn't actually protect the phone. This seems to be a bit of overkill in terms of complaints. First people complain that if they don't use a case their signal drops (I know that the recent OS update is supposed to fix the mis-reporting issue) - it's a very expensive piece of kit, why wouldn't you put it in a case - so no real problem there. Apple kindly dish out a bumper to help with this issue and now people are moaning that it's not protecting their phone.

I realise it's annoying that it's marking your phones, but it was never designed for protection. Remember when people complained about the original iPod nano...apple provided a case to help protect from scratches, but at the end of the day if people chuck their phone in their pocket or bag, then it won't be protected, no matter whether it's in a case or not. I think that Apple are trying to help and getting punched in the face for it. I'm not a fanboy....**** I use a PC!

Bottom line: protect your phone with a case designed for that purpose, if such a thing exists, or lock it away in a safe and don't touch it!.

Prior to the release of iPhone 4 and for the first few weeks of it's launch, the bumper was very much promoted as a protection solution for it.

My apologies, I didn't realise that the bumper was sold as a protective solution before the death grip issue took over. Thanks for correcting me.

Just read through a lot of posts on here and its a shame a few people think this issue is a small problem.

Apple sold you a phone with a antenna which shorts when you hold the outside casing. Plus they deny that the problem even exists before u turning and holding a press release to apologise to customers and providing they loyal customers with a bumper to resolve the issue.

After waiting a month i received an official iphone 4 bumper - as stated in description it will resolve signal loss and protect the phone.

I have now found out my phone has tiny star marks all over the antenna caused by the bumper.

If you pay £500 quid for a phone and use an official case which causes scratches is apples problem and customers should be exchanged for new units or refunded.

I think all those people on here having a laugh or making jokes dont care for their products or this post. Only thing i can say is JOG ON !!
