iPhone 4 bumpers scratch stainless steel band!

Beware guys...I received my black bumper about a week ago now. Took off the bumper tonight to clean my phone down and there are scratch marks on the steel band from the bumper (this is caused from the pieces of hard plastic on the underside of the bumper. Not a happy camper here...

The problem is the case not the phone, so in what way does a faulty case warrant a brand new iPhone? It doesn't. You all want a whole lot of something for a whole lot of nothing. If anything, you should be able to exchange the case for a different one, but to get a brand new phone over an aftermarket item not working properly is unheard of and unprecedented.

i had exactly the same problem black bumper on the phone day I got it about 4 weeks ago, took it off yesterday for the first time to see rub marks on the top and side of the phone. Went to Apple store today the "genius" I use the term loosly told me not to worry as it didnt affect the operation of the phone I told him he was missing the point and told him I wanted a new phone, so he did! trouble is now i'm afraid to put the apple bumper back on or I will be back to square one! they couldn't replace the bumper cause they gave them all away, if I dont put the bumper back on I get the death grip oh joy!!

I really think you are missing the point you buy I very expensive phone, you wish to keep it pristine so you buy the protector that is made buy the manufacturer to keep it that way, you then discover that the item you bought (£25 not cheap) has actually damaged the expensive phone thus rendering the wholething pointless and you end up with a damaged phone and an expensive case you can no longer use, add to that Apple gave you the case free because by their own admission its the only way to keep the signal strong on the phone!!! If you dont use the case you lose signal and render the phone useless! How can you not get that!!

The phone is not damaged, It is scuffed. I've actually reenacted this on my friends phone (who subsequently had the same black marks from his bumper) and it IS possible to remove them. Scratch pad + a slight amount of water = goodbye scuff marks. No one forced you to use the bumper, and in all fairness the product is supposed to protect from scratches, in which these scuffs are far from. Now I'm not saying you don't deserve anything (a refund of the bumper and a new case at most) I just think it's childish to get a brand new phone over a few scuff marks that, in my experience, were easy to remove. My friend also got a new case to put on his phone because he didn't want to deal with it anymore. The solution isn't to get a new phone and bumper, it's to remove the scuff marks and get an entirely new case. I find it very hard to believe that people can afford $300 USD for a phone but not $25 on a basic case from Incipio, Griffin, SwitchEasy; anyone but Apple. The Bumper was never a good case, and it never has been since it's release. That's why I'm still baffled that anyone was using one.

i just got my bumper today and i am kinda afraid to use it since all of you guys experienced scratches on the metal band. I inspected very well my bumper and i didn't see any hard plastic pieces sticking out . Everything nice and smooth. Is anyone who didn't experience the scratches from the bumper???

I wouldn't worry much about it. I'd really take this thread very lightly, seeing it's not really that widespread of a problem. There are more users with Bumpers who have experienced no problems than those who used it and got these scuff marks. The only reason you're seeing threads like these is because people only complain when something goes wrong (and reasonably so). If there were a thread for every good thing about Apple and their products (or ANY reputable company for that matter on their respected forums/website), then the complaints would really be far and few between. Does that mean I advocate using a Bumper? Of course not; it's hardly good at protecting the front and back glass, but as long as the inside surface is smooth, you shouldn't have to worry about scuff marks.

Whether or not the resulting damage is the fault of the Apple Bumper is unverified and uncertain and therefore I cannot guarantee that the aforementioned pictures were indeed damaged via the Apple Bumper. Well i just come on here to tell everyone about this. the "bumper" is useless, it has scratched my phone like ****, and i dropped my phone hoping the bumper would help - **** no. my phone has dint's and scratch's. I'm making my way to the apple store to give them some abuse. my cheap cover from eBay was better.

and yeah you'll all say something like "not apples fault" well actually yes it is. Its a cover. Its purpose, to protect my phone, and what does it do? ruin my phone. not just any old phone but a bloody expensive one.

Not impressed.
