Copy a cell phone number from Messages?

Copy a cell phone number from Messages?

Seems like we don't have the option to do the simple act of copying a cell phone number from the list of recipients, or the sender, in the Messages application.

It seems such an obvious function to provide.

However, no matter how I have tried on my MBP, the only options provided appear to be:

Send Private Message

Create New Contact...

Add to Existing Contact...

Large Type

And on my iPhone the only options that appear are:

Send Message

Share Contact

Create New Contact

Add to Existing Contact

Block this Caller

This time I just wanted to copy the number of the person who sent the text to ask one of the other recipients who the number belonged to. However, there have been several other reasons I only wanted to copy the number.

Is there a way to do it? If not, does anyone have an idea why not?

MacBook Pro 15", macOS 10.12

In the Messages app, tap on the name at the top to get the info button below the contact name. In the next screen, tap on the arrow to the right of the contact name. The next screen will show the phone number. Tap and hold down on it there to get the Copy feature.

It works the same way. Tap on the group of contacts at the top. Tap on the info button and the whole group of people and numbers appear. Tap the arrow all the way to the right of the number that you want to add. Tap and hold down on the number in the next screen.

Thanks. That did work for people that are in my contacts. But it didn't work for people (numbers) that are not.

This specific time, I needed to do it for a number I don't have because the person included me on a group text. I want to be able to ask someone I do know who the person was.

I ended up doing it the old fashioned way, ... I wrote it down! : - ) But I just figured with all of this tech, the copy, cut, paste, thing should be an easy option.

Yes. It worked. And I think I must have done that before. Wondering why I got stuck this morning. Anyway, thank you.

p.s. as long as I am on this, it did work on my iphone just fine, but, for the numbers I don't have in my contacts, it did not work in Messages on my MBP.
