bluetooth mic/headset constantly disconnects

I tried using Bluetooth Explorer to adjust the audio quality of my bluetooth headset to use AAC. Now when I connect my bluetooth headset it constantly disconnects and reconnects.

When I try to open the audio options in bluetooth explorer it crashes every time. I've reset the Mac mini's SMC and have used bluetooth explorer to reset BT as well. But it's still crashing when trying to open audio options. I've also tried removing some plist files with no luck.

Not sure what else to try. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Tried everything and the only thing that worked was wiping the internal Mac mini drive, both data and OS partitions, and then reinstalling Catalina. Make sure to not reinstall from Time Machine but just do a new OS install and then restore individual items you need from TM after the OS install and account setup are done.

BT is working as it should now. Thanks

Hi the_flakes,

Thanks for posting your question. As I understand you've been running into some issues with audio and Bluetooth on your Mac. I'll be glad to see how I can help.

It sounds like your next best step is to test the issue in a newly-created administrator. This will help confirm if the issue is system-wide and whether a reinstall might be needed to clear this up. Here's how: How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac

If the issue persists in the new administrator account, you might try booting into macOS Recovery mode to run First Aid: Repair a storage device in Disk Utility on Mac. After running First Aid, click Apple menu () > Restart and test again.

If that doesn't resolve the issue, that's when I recommend making a backup using Time Machine and then reinstalling macOS. You may be able to try reinstalling without erasing, but it's a good idea to have a backup when reinstalling:
