Restore procedure not working.

I forgot the passcode for my iPad Pro 12.9", with home button. I am not having any luck with the restoration process. After I click on the Restore button, it tells me that the appropriate software is being downloaded. It just times out every time.

I have also tried with Find My phone. It tells me it will finish the restore process when the iPad connects to the internet. Problem is: I can't connect to internet when iPad is disabled.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply. I have already tried both procedures several times. I get as far as a screen on my Mac which says:

"Software: iPad Recovery Mode

Your Mac is downloading a software update for this iPad and will install it when the download is complete."

Underneath, there are two buttons: "Update" and "Restore iPad". They are both greyed out.

I have not been able to get it past this point. The screen stays this way for about 15 minutes, and then my Mac ejects the iPad. The iPad is still disabled at this point.

I have tried over several hours, without success.
