Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

This article doesn’t mention the problem with the self-assigned ip address. I need to change that, first.

Why did it change to a self-assigned IP address and how do I change it back so I can have internet access?

And why doesn’t it address this issue in Apple Support?

It’s a laptop—MacBook pro.

Running iOS 10.14.6

A self-assigned IP address means the computer is not getting an IP address from your router.


First thing to do is reboot both your router and your computer (maybe even your modem). If you still have issues, then try creating a new Network location or create a new admin user so you can test your connection to your router using default or newly configured settings. Try using an Ethernet cable for a direct connection to your router to eliminate any possible WiFi issues.
