I use Safari and have never encountered this problem before. It just says, "A problem repeatedly occurred with..." followed by the Google Maps URL, and a button to "Reload Webpage", which just yields the same results.
Is anyone having the same/similar issue?

Then click on "2D Mode: This Google Maps version may work better on older or lower performance computers. It doesn’t have 3D images or WebGL, and it uses simple zooming and transitions. Open Maps in 2D Mode."
It now works. If I try to go back to full "3D mode" - immediate page crash.

I am also having this issue on my 2015 MBP / MacOs Sierra 10.12.6 - Safari Version 12.1.2
Appears others having it too. So you're not alone. Firefox works fine. Just started today.
Google Maps is not loading on my MacBook.
