"Security Update 2018-004 El Capitan" slowed me down noticeably.
Anyone else noticed this? I have multiple backups, thank goodness. How important is this update? I have already read "About the security content of macOS High Sierra 10.13.6, Security Update 2018-004 Sierra, Security Update 2018-004 El Capitan" https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208937

Try starting your Mac in Safe Mode, Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac – Apple Support
Starting up in Safe Mode takes a while so be patient. Then just restart your Mac up normally.
May make a difference as it clears out caches.

Are you running any anti-virus software, if so you shouldn't, Macs do not need AV apps.
Open Activity Monitor (Applications/Utilities) and see if there are any processes that are
using up the CPU or memory or energy.
Are you running out of disk space?
Shouldn't really slow you down, have you done this quite recently, if so the Mac may be re-indexing.
To check type something in Spotlight and see if you can see the indexing progress bar.
Thank Eau Rouge. Yes just did it. Not re in-indexing now. Is there a tool/app which could substantiate this slow down?
No not running any anti virus software. Not running out of disk space. No processes on activity monitor seem unusual. 98% idle.
