Disk Utility is stuck on disk loading. And then I get a message that the page is non responsive and it gives me the option to wait or exit. Waiting leads to the same error eventually. What should i do?

What "page" are you trying to open with Disk Utility?
Boot into Safe Mode (Use Safe Mode to isoloate issues with your Mac) and try Disk Utility from there. Then reboot normally and try again.
NOTE: Safe Mode boot can take up to 10 minutes as it's doing some system cache cleaning, volume verifying and directory repairing.
