Hi, I purchased an iPad Air Pro (iOS13),
Then I went to Best Buy and spoke to a rep who helped me pick out the USB SuperDrive from Apple. After unpacking it, I noted it had a USB-A connection which made me pause and ask whether or not it was compatible with my iPad.
I did some research and got mixed responses so, here I am asking the same question. I haven’t plugged it in fearing the worse.

There are no optical drive software drivers or optical drive playing/burning software for iPads/iOS.

No. Its not compatible with iPad, but plugging it in will not harm the iPad either.
You would have needed an adapter to go from the iPad's port to USB-A anyway.
Also, no such thing as an iPad Air Pro. Its either Air or Pro, cannot be both.
