how to make vlc the default media player on iMac pro

Using Catalina, how do I change the default audio player to VLC from the default Music Player.

Yup, you're right.....iTunes and/or the music app is kinda part of the system. Ok, let me take another swing at it.


Right click on the file you want to always open with VLC; in this case, MP3, Click 'Get info". In the 'Open With" section, pick VLC from the drop down menu. To apply this change to all files of this type, click the 'change all button' and if the Finder asks you if you're sure, click on 'Continue' and that's it. usually, there might also be something about "Always open with", but you can access that from the Finder menu. It used to be that iTunes handled everything, now iTunes has been simplified, and there's a Music app.


Ok if you're really stuck, harleyjon2010, post a screenshot here. You can take a screenshot of what's giving you the bother by pressing Command( Apple) (Shift) key+ 3 (the number key). command+Shift+4 lets you take a targeted screenshot
