External Hard Drive Won't Mount/Eject

Hi all,

I have an external hard drive (WD EasyStore) with 10+ years and >1TB

of information on it that I mistakenly pulled out without ejecting

properly. Now the drive is seen by the Disk Utility but will not eject

or open in read only when running commands in terminal. I only have a

mac so haven't tried anything on a PC. Any advice on how to salvage all

this data? I'm on a MacBook Pro running Mojave 10.14.6.

What file system is used on the external drive?

Are you using the WD software to manage the drive?

If it is a Mac file system does Disk Utility First Aid run cleanly without any errors?

If you are using a USB hub, then connect the drive directly to the computer. If you are connecting the drive directly to the computer, then try using a powered USB3 hub.

You may want to check the health of the external hard drive by using DriveDX. You may need to install a special USB driver in order for DriveDX to be able to communicate with the external drive. Some USB controllers on external drives do not allow the necessary communication even when using the special USB driver. Post the DriveDX report here using the "Additional Text" icon which looks like a piece of paper.
