Prohibitive Sign during Time Machine restore

I've had to replace the SSD drive in my mid-2015 Macbook Pro, and now I'm trying to restore a Time Machine backup.

I went out yesterday, at the point where it estimated the process would take another nine hours to complete. I returned less than two hours later to find that it was now showing the prohibitive sign.

It's possible, I guess, that the process completed and then it tried to re-boot, and the sign indicates that there was an issue with the OSX installation on that version of the backup, but that would make the nine hour estimate way out.

I guess my next step is to do a hard reset, re-format the drive, boot into Internet Recovery mode again and try restoring from an earlier backup.

Does anyone know what the problem might be, or where I go from here?

Thanks in advance.

Power down & hold alt key at startup, does that show boot choices?
