when does the warranty on in iPhone start? is it as soon as you buy it from the store or as soon as you activate it?

The day it is sold at retail by Apple or an Apple authorized seller. Activations have nothing at all to do with the warranty, and you can erase and activate a device as many times as you wish. Apple does not monitor nor keep any records of device activations.
