iPhone X OS 13.3 drops calls when lifted to ear, fine on speaker

Hi my iPhone X has started dropping calls when I lift the phone to my ear. It’s fine on speaker phone and when linked to my car. If I take or make a call and lift the phone to my ear there’s a click and the phone drops the call and reverts to home locked screen. Any ideas?

Assuming you are sure you are not accidentally pressing the lock button as you raise the phone (which is what it sounds like if you hear the lock sound and it goes to the lock screen) check that the proximity detector near the ear speaker isn’t blocked by your case or screen protector.
