App crashing when opened, won't delete or offload.

Hi all,

I have an iPhone 7 with the latest iOS, and recently two apps began to crash immediately after opening them. One of them I was able to delete and re-install and haven't had issues since.

The other app (Amazon Alexa), I "deleted" by holding down on the home screen until the X (delete app) popped up, then clicking it.

Now it's nowhere to be found on my home screen, but when I go into Settings>General>iPhone Storage>app, it still gives me the option to Offload or Delete the app, neither of which work.

If I click 'Offload' nothing happens. If I click 'Delete App' it will disappear from my list of apps (on the iPhone storage screen) and then momentarily reappear.

I've tried resetting my phone, resetting the home screen layout, I've gone into the App Store and the app store gives me the option to "Open", but it won't open or it just crashes immediately when opened.

I've also tried deleting all other apps associated with Amazon to see if that would help in case they share data like how Google does. It didn't change a thing.

I had this happen a few months ago with the Facebook app- I was actually able to delete it, but I had to perform a hard reset to the phone because my phone itself kept turning on, crashing and turning off- I couldn't even make it past the lock screen. I really don't want to do that again/go through the ordeal of a 2 hour apple support phone call.

Please help!

Thank you!

Hello aliitron,

Thanks for that info and for choosing the Apple Support Communities. If I understand correctly, you are unable to delete an app, as it just reappears in Settings>General>iPhone Storage. First, make sure your iPhone is up to date, as the updates contain stability fixes that can resolve issues like yours, as well as important security updates to keep your iPhone safe.

Update the iOS software on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Next, if you have restrictions enabled, please go to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions > iTunes & App Store Purchases > Deleting Apps and set it to "Don't Allow" and then set it back to "Allow" and see if this helps with your situation.

Use parental controls on your child's iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Cheers!
