Wifi icon missing in menu bar IOS Catalina

I have repeatedly turned on and off the "Show WIFI Status in Menu Bar" box selection in preferences (it DOES show while preferences box is open, disappears once closed) but cannot get it to remain in the menu bar.

Any fix?

Here are the instructions for resetting NVRAM and SMC:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204063

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295

To start in Safe Mode, immediately press and hold the Shift key after pressing the power button.

Safe Mode is slow. That is normal. It clears a number of system caches and loads only essential services.

Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app

You can try Relaunching the Menu Bar from the Terminal.app using this command line, simply copy and paste:

killall -KILL SystemUIServer

use the enter/return key to complete

quit terminal.

You can do this on the fly, no restarting required,
