New phone

So I had an Android that the screen had cracked. An amazing friend got me a new phone as a surprise for Christmas. It's an I phone. I have Tmobile as a carrier and tried to put my sim card in. I am not great with electronics! Lol! Does anyone know if I need to go in to get this done or should I be able to do it myself??
