Is it possible to receive malware from a website via an iPhone. I recently received an email stating that malware was imbedded in my phone via a website and that the sender was able to use the browser as a RDP accessing my camera. They are threatening to release data and incriminating video to email contacts unless I send a cash payment. I am sure it is a scam but is it possible to receive malware from a website ?

It is simply not possible in that a web browser in iOS is incapable of downloading, executing and installing code anywhere in iOS. The sandboxed nature of iOS simply precludes any web browser from performing such actions.
I have received such email scams even when using devices that don’t even have a camera (work desktop computers for example) - these scams are just emailed in mass, randomly to any and every email address the scammer can get a hold of.

No, it's a known scam. There's no way for them to access your camera or anything else on your iPhone. Forget them and move on.
if your device is not jailbroken then the 'tools' (SDK) a developer would need to do this are not available from Apple to do so and then sell an App on the app store.
Thanks - thought that was the case but always reassuring to hear from people that have much more knowledge about the subject.
