Creating a bootable usb drive

Thank for this and I apologise for the delay in replying. I have looked at this and it seems to give instructions for creating a method of install MacOS on a number of machines ( when I was involved with PCs we called it Ghosting )

I just want to boot from the drive so that I can examine the Fusion Drive etc without the complication of it being used for the OS at the same time.

There must be a way to create a drive on a USB key, external drive or even a partition

Thanks for the reply and I apologise for not replying straight away. I have run a disk check already and no errors were noted.

I think that I’m being asked to check the drive when it’s not being used to run the OS.

I thought you had because I sat down with a new USB and I had already downloaded Mojave and went to your post but only could see the installer link.
