Is there anyway to unlock my iPhone 5 after my backup on iTunes got deleted and my grandson locked the password up?

Online support had me try this and my computer kept saying I was missing a download or I needed to do a download first

I finally got it to come up with update or restore on iTunes. But it wants to tell me I need to unlock iPhone. This is what I’m trying to do to this phone. There has to be a way to unlock it now.
