To Move or Duplicate a File or Folder, Drag and Drop its Icon on the intended destination. (Choosing Copy merely copies its name to the clipboard)

It is easy to have two Finder windows open, to drag Icons between them. Just open one, then go back the the File Menu and choose "New Finder Window". Drag the two windows apart so you can drag and drop Icons between them.

The default when dragging files on the same drive is to do a Move. Holding the Option key while you Drag will toggle the sense of Duplicate/Move. The mouse-pointer will change to a green Plus-sign, indicating Duplicate.

A Move is accomplished by changing the directory entry ONLY -- the actual data blocks are NOT re-written. So even for very large files, a Move on the same drive completes in an instant, a Duplicate takes some time.
