card reader will not open

Does the card show in Disk Utility? (see 'go' column in Finder.)

If so, then you could eject or 'otherwise address' the card reader.

There may be a reset that could help. Maybe SMC with instructions

for portable macs? (NVRAM is another reset that has fringe uses.)
