Gasket around macbook screen is sticky/rubbing off

I just bought a used late 2014 retina MacBook Pro 15". The black edge around the screen (rubber gasket) is sticky, and when I rub it with a cloth, black comes off.

Has anyone else had this problem? What should I do? No matter how much I rub more black comes off. The computer is cool, and turned off. Really don't want to have to replace the screen.
