Catalina and Mail.app

After upgrading to Catalina 10.15.2, I see issues with Mail when used by one specific user account. After launching Mail.app, I received a warning that system memory is critical low. It turned out that Mail.app eats up all available memory, until the system comes to a complete halt. I launched Mail.app with the shift key held down and I did a safe boot. All did not help.

The issue seems to be user-related, because a second user on the same machine with access to the same mail-accounts does not suffer the issue (I use two user accounts, one standard and the other admin with access to the same mail-accounts).

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

P.

Thanks Peter,

in the end, it turned out that it was related to a recovered mailbox that was stored locally on my Mac. Deleting it fixed the issue.

Thanks again,

P.

OK you proved one of your user accounts has a corrupt file, possibly a .plist

I have put in a feature request fir a Mail Reset function.

Until then you have two choices.

  • create a new user account and move all your data there and start afresh,

or

  • Close Mail then search through your ~/Library for everything related to Mail and delete it. Good luck with that.
