Erasing my info with an app

A large pharmaceutical company purchased the firm I work for. In order to do business on our iPhones (such as receive emails) I will have to allow them to add an app that can erase my phone data if I leave the company willingly or unwillingly. I can also chose to let them buy me a second phone. If they erase my phone will my photos and contacts be safe in iCloud? I don't care if they take their emails, and I can always reload my personal email, but I worry about contacts and photos.

I strongly suggest not mixing your personal information onto an employer’s iPhone. Your employer can do whatever they wish to an iPhone they own. Use your own separate device (and separate Apple ID) for your personal information.
