HP 2710

I'm using an iMac in my room and my sister is using a PC in her room and my dad is using a laptop PC. As you can see, we all need to share one printer. the PC's print fine but I can't get my iMac to print! I am desperate now. At one point I was able to print for a few days then after that I would get a message saying that the jobs are stopped and I can't print. Since then, I haven't been able to print. I found this on another topic in this forum and I responded to it but it seems that it's an old topic and no one reads it. I think the following advice might be for a different printer model also by HP:
1. Reset the printer to factory default setting:

a. Verify the printer is powered on.
b. Holding down the Report Page Button. (The check mark button.)
c. While holding down the Report Page button press the Cancel (X) button 3 times.
d. Release the Report Page button.
e. Unplug the printer power cord, wait 20 seconds.
f. Plug the power cord back in again.

2. Select the network "hpsetup" from the wireless icon on the Mac.

3. Wait for the Network link light to come on, on the printer.

4. Check that the printer is connected correctly to the network:

a. Print out a Network Configuration page (push and release the Report Page button).
b. Check line 3 for URL (IP address of the printer).
c. Check line 15 for the connection status (should read "Connected").
d. Check line 16 for communication mode (should read "Ad Hoc").
e. Check line 17 for network name (should read "hpsetup").

5. Connect to the URL of the printer using an Internet Browser to access the Embedded Web Server (EWS).

a. Open your internet browser. (Note a message will be received stating you cannot access the internet.)
b. Type the IP address of the printer from the configuration page into the address bar and select Go or Enter.

6. Select the Networking tab.

7. Select "Wireless (802.11)" from under the "CONNECTIONS" options on the left of the Networking section.

8. Click on the "Start Wizard" button.

9. Enter the Network Name (SSID). (The name of your current network,)

10. Click the "Next" button.

11. The printer will automatically detect the network security and show you a page corresponding with this. (If no security is enabled on the network, skip to line 15.)

12. Enter the WEP (WPA) key and confirm if you have security on your network.

13. Click the "Next" button.

14. Confirm all settings.

15. Press the "Finish" button.

16. Put your computer back onto your network by selecting your network from the wireless icon on the top right of your desktop.

17. Wait for the printer to joint the network. (The network status light will be on.)

18. Print out a Report page to confirm that the following lines contain the correct information.

a. Line 15 - Connected.
b. Line 16 - Infastructure.
c. Line 17 - The name of your network entered in the Embedded Web Server.

19. Add the printer into the Printer List under Bonjour/Rendezvous.

a. Double-click to open the Macintosh Hard Drive.
b. Select Applications.
c. Select Utilities.
d. Double-click to Open the Printer Setup Utility.
e. If the printer is listed click once on the name of the printer and click Delete.
f. Click Add to open the Printer Browser.
g. Click once on the name of the printer when it appears in the list.
h. Print Using: should read HP Inkjet 2.7.1.
i. Click Add.

I've got a HP2710 and I have my iMac connected to it wirelessly and it works fine. I have a Netgear wireless router and it all goes through that.

The only thing I did was went to the HP website, downloaded the latest drivers for Mac, a fairly mammoth download with the HP Image Zone software included, installed it, and that was that, very little configuration to do.

I'll help if I can, but first stop would be the HP site I'd say.

I downloaded the Web installers for OS X v 10.2 and later weighing in a 88meg.

First up if you are printing via the router, you should have a blue wireless symbol on the printer display which will tell you that the printer is connected to the router.

Beyond that installation was automatic. You could try going back through the HP set up assistant that will be located in the Utilities sub-folder of your main HP folder on your disk, and checking that your Mac can still find it.

I have found HP Support to be very good in the past, but remember they are only as good as the information you give them. Make sure you tell them all about your setup, what you've tried, and so on.

Good luck

Matt
