iOS 13.3 photo transfer to PC problem

Hi all,

I am an iPhone 7 user on iOS 13.3 and I am on the latest iTunes (Version 12.10.3.1). I am trying to transfer photos taken by my iPhone into my Windows 10.

I have done some research into the common issues experienced since the introduction of HEIC files. I.e. Settings > Photos > Transfer to PC and click on 'Keep Originals'. However, I have experienced a new error when my devices are connected for transfer. Error is 'The requested value cannot be determined.'

I have tried to isolate the problem by restarting all my devices; changed PCs; changed USB ports; changed lightning cables; updated the USB drivers on my PC etc. The error persisted.

I further isolated the error and it would occur when I tried to transfer photos taken by my iPhone. If I unplugged my phone from my PC and replugged it. I was able to transfer stock photos I have downloaded from Safari in my Photos. However, once I tried to transfer one photo I have taken with the phone, I get the error.

I did further research and cannot locate any recent and similar complaints online.

Could this be an iOS 13.3 glitch that only affected some users? Or I am doing something wrong? Help :(

Hey there dozza_123,

  • “You can import photos to your PC by connecting your device to your computer and using Windows Photos app:

  • Make sure that you have the latest version of iTunes on your PC. Importing photos to your PC requires iTunes 12.5.1 or later.
  • Connect your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your PC with a USB cable.

  • You might also see a prompt on the iOS device asking you to Trust This Computer. Tap Trust or Allow to continue.

Then, follow the steps in these Microsoft knowledge base articles to learn how to import photos to Windows Photos app:

Windows 10

Cheers!

Hi all,

Going off alex_h1's link, I have found a round-about way to transfer photos from iPhone to Windows PC.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-au/help/4027134/windows-10-import-photos-and-videos-from-phone-to-pc

  • Open Window's 'Photo' app (the icon is a framed mountain tops)

  • Select Import > From a USB device at the top right corner of the Photo app and pick your Iphone as the photo source.

  • It will ask you to tick the photos to transfer to PC

  • Transferred photos were located in my 'Pictures' folder > subfolder (titled in today's date)

Now I have to move the photos from my Pictures to my intended external hard drive.

The change(s) led to an extra step. In the past, I could click and drag photos from iPhone to USB.

Now its upload iPhone photos to PC; then click and drag photos to USB.

I am not sure which platform changed, Apple or Windows. But compatibility and ease of transfer between platform is an issue :(

Hi CP,

Sorry for the delayed update.

So I have updated my Windows 10 to the latest version(1909). This did not resolve the issue unfortunately. Still getting the error 'The requested value cannot be determined' when trying to transfer my iphone photos.

The iCloud option is not viable as the photos I have could easily take up the free 5GB space. I have iCloud sycn deactivated.

Is this a known issue and/or common to Apple? The iPhone to Window PC transfer? It is getting frustrating that I cannot backup my photos unless I get a MacBook or an Apple PC to sync my devices....

Please help.

I have the same problem and have tried all these items - no success. The Windows Photo app does not find my iPhone, even though I can see it and open it on my desktop. I can open the folder on my desktop and see the photo and movie files, but when I try a direct copy to hard drive, some copy over then it stops and says device unavailable or similar error. I have more than 5GB in photos now, so iCloud not a viable answer. I have not had this problem before iOS13. Is there something I'm missing?
