Time Machine is trying to delete the old backup file on the Time Machine/Time Capsule

because it has detected that it is corrupted, but it cannot complete the operation.

I suspect your drive has become corrupt— you can reformat the drive and see if that fixes it— then start a new backup.

Is this external disk working correctly?

Any evidence of other corruptions, errors, or performance problems with it?

Check with the WD support folks too, as they might have tools to detect problems.

I’m not a huge believer in reformatting a failing drive.

Replacement is preferred.

Particularly if the drive is out of warrantee.
