My 11 pro won’t sleep when I hit the side button.

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities! I see you're having an issue with putting your iPhone to sleep, and I'd like to do what I can to help out.
Have you restarted your iPhone since noticing this issue? If not, go ahead and do that, as a restart can resolve unusual issues.
The Side button is correct to put your iPhone to sleep. It's a quick press, not too long, or you may get Siri to respond.

Use gestures to navigate your iPhone X and later
If you have a case on your iPhone, remove it and see if you can then put your iPhone to sleep. The case may be inadvertently obstructing the use of the Side button.
