Ipad activation lock, how to get around?

Is there any other way around the activation lock than knowing the person who sold the ipad and having them sign out of the apple id used to set it up. I bought a business which came with an ipad that was set up by who knows what person, that used to work there. And apparently the ipad is still linked to their apple id. Is there really no way for me to ever use this ipad?
