Missing Mail Junk Mailbox

I have several email accounts and in Preferences, Mailbox Behaviors, all but one account show "Bulk" mail as a designated server option. There is a Junk mail option under On my Mac. Device: MBP, OS High Sierra (v10.13.6), Mail (v11.5).

All but one account open like this:

These are my options when I click on the tab: I've erased identifying information.

In the side bar, there is a Junk mailbox showing on the server for every account. Only one "On My Mac" account in the sidebar has a Bulk mailbox. I've tried to delete this mailbox but I get this response:

I also have an IMac running OS SL with an older mail program (v4.6) that has access to the same accounts. Every account on the Imac on the On My Mac sidebar has both a Bulk and a Trash Mailbox. It has a Trash and Junk box showing on the server. The only Junk mailbox behavior option is to store junk on the server. No accounts have this option checked. I'm not sure if this is creating a conflict.

Any insightful response is greatly appreciated. I still can't find a designated "mail" forum. Thank you.

On the intermittent Mail connections, what does Mail>Window>Connection Doctor report?

Not following the CC BCC thing, but matbe I need some coffee!

Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712

System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.

System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.

The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.

If using Wifi, instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.

System Preferences>Network>choose interface>Advanced>Proxies Tab, make sure none are set, like for HTTP & HTTPS.

System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...

Hello again BDAqua,

I use AOL for some accounts. Yeah, I know. I'm a dinosaur. I'm living proof that dinosaurs aren't extinct! Anyway, I did as you suggested and went to my accounts on AOL. In the mail options, there's just a junk and spam folder. No "Bulk" folder at all. Of note, even though I only have a "Bulk" and not a Junk box option under mailbox behaviors on the MBP, all the spam mail that I've received since we began this odyssey has gone to the Junk folder in the sidebar.

Also of interest, to me at least, is that on the IMac Mail (v4.6 - speaking of dinosaurs), there are both bulk and junk folders in the sidebar under On My Mac. I'll have to play around with that. There is no option under behaviors as to what folder to send junk mail to.

You've been very helpful and patient. I'm sincerely appreciative of all your help!

Dinosaur, stay out of my cave!:D

Glad I can help, where do we stand on you needing further help?

You mean that there's more than one dinosaur? Who knew?

As far as needing further help.....that's a question that should never be asked, though I appreciate it!

Hmmm...

In Mail:

I still can't create an alias in Mail even though Apple says that I can.

In ITunes/App Store:

I have DRM protected ITunes purchases that I can't upgrade, (yes, I know, a different forum but hey, you asked!), in part because the album(s) is no longer there (thought most songs are), as well as being unable to sign into ITunes or the App store on my obsolete (dinosaur) IMac with OS SL 10.6.8 (I'll never give it up!). Of course, this means that I can't sync my IPads with the IMac anymore. Did I mention that I'm still using IPhoto? The wife hates Photos.....so.....happy wife, happy life! Yes, we still burn DVD's and CD's!

Legacy Mac:

In addition to the G5 IMac, I have a G4 IMac with OS Tiger that I don't know what to do with. Now that's a dinosaur but a great little Mac!

I could go on but I'll spare you. You did ask though! Besides, I don't believe that there's room enough in your cave!

Thanks again BDAqua (I got the Aqua part) for all of your help.

You know, in this divided world of ours, some people, like yourself, can still make a difference. It's a great thing that you, and other like you here in the ASC do. Imagine that, people helping people just because. What an old fashioned idea. I suppose I'll get into trouble for getting off topic. Ah, well.

From one dinosaur to another....I hope that you have a Happy New Year!

Hello BDAqua,

Wow! That was quick!

I don't have gmail so I'm not sure what to make of the meaning of your response, or what it is you're suggesting that I do. I thank you just the same.

Regarding your follow up question:

Also, up top is there a Junk folder listed

Yes, every mailbox shows a Junk folder. As shown in the graphic above, a Junk folder isn't shown as an option under mailbox behaviors.

BDAqua,

I booted in Safe Mode, tried to delete the Bulk mailbox from the "On My Mac" sidebar and got the same error code.

Of interest, under Mailbox behaviors every account, save one, shows "Bulk" as the option to move Junk mail to. The account with the "Bulk" box in the sidebar that I'm unable to remove, under Mailbox behaviors it shows both Junk and Bulk as options. This is the only account that shows this. The screenshot is of this account. Of further interest, this shot shows a "Junk" box as an "On My Mac" option. However, there is no Junk box there, only the "Bulk" box that gives me the error when I try to delete it.

It's a dilemma! Thank you for your efforts. This is not a critical issue and doesn't appear to affect how Mail works. It's more of a challenging, frustrating issue that I'm simply trying to understand and resolve.

The "On My Mac" Junk box option is available for all accounts. As shown above in the first screenshot, there is no "Junk" box option for the server for any account, only a "Bulk" option. The exception to this, of course, is the account with the "Bulk" box in the side bar (which is empty) which also is the only box to offer both a Junk and Bulk option in Mailbox behaviors on the server. My head is spinning!

I imagine that I could delete the problematic mailbox and then re-load it. That may solve the problem. My concern here is that I've saved some important email in a folder "On My Mac" under this account that I don't want to lose. I'm not sure how to save it if I delete the account. Move it to another account? That should work.

Where is Bulk in that sidebar?

Here, in the account listings below "On My Mac". This is the folder that I can't remove.

I'll try your suggestion tomorrow and let you know if it works. Thank you!

If the "On My Mac" Junk box is available to all those accounts I'd try setting them all to that & see if you can delete Bulk.

Hello again BDAqua,

Huzzah! Problem fixed....mostly.

Well, I finally stopped laughing enough to write you. I did as you suggested and set all accounts Junk behavior to the "On My Mac" Junk box. Of interest, in the course of doing this, the Mail App crashed 3 times. When I reopened Mail the changes had been saved. What I found so amusing is that when all accounts were finally moved to Mac/Junk, all accounts in the "On My Mac" sidebar now had a "Bulk" folder!

I reset all account Junk Mailbox behaviors to Bulk, on the server. A junk box option is no longer offered for any account except under "On My Mac" as shown in the second screenshot above.

So, problem mostly solved. The Bulk box that I was unable to remove and had been getting the error on has POOFED! It's out-a-here! Gone! Huzzah!

Now if I can only get my Junk mailbox behaviors tab to show a Junk box instead of Bulk. It will be interesting to see where any junk or spam go!

Thank you BDAqua!
