Cannot send mail (SMTP) on MacBook using Spectrum

I have a mail.twc.com (Spectrum) email account and I use my mac mail program to manage my mail. When I am at home I can receive my mail and send my mail with no problems. When I am away from home with my Macbook Pro I can receive mail but I can't send it. I went to preferences and checked through all my setting and everything is set up correctly. However, on my outgoing mail it shows as mail.twc.com (offline). I'm sure this is the problem but I can't get the offline off. I have no problem when sending mail with my iPhone. I have duplicated the setting on my Mac same as on my iPhone. Suggestions?

Thank you for your prompt reply. Unfortunately the setting instructions you sent are the same as prescribed by Spectrum. The issue seems to be that the SMTP is showing offline status when I travel outside of Spectrum's coverage area or when I use my iPhone hot spot. For some reason, even though the setting are correct, the SMTP shows offline. I have had this account for many years and this is a new development. Like I stated earlier I can send and receive emails on my iPhone. Any other thoughts you have on this will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

re: Spectrum

It seems you are not alone:

If Spectrum is of no help—possible work a rounds;

you can change your email provider

you can try and use webmail for sending from your Mac when traveling (log in through a browser)

The only way forward if you think this is a Mac problem, is to remove the account from Mail and then add it back in.

Okay thanks again. But I am not willing to change provider as you must create new email address. After 20 years I am not willing to do that. Webmail is very slow and I am not going to do that when Mac Mail works so much better. I have read through Spectrums forums and I see the same replies as you did. It seems that outgoing server times out. I was hoping that Apple had seen this issue before and knew of an answer. If you think of anything else please let me know. Thank you again.
