Is there away to use CarPlay without using Siri?

I find voice controls extremely frustrating and distracting (I have disabilities), and wish to use iTunes and maps on my new car. It looks like I will have to use CarPlay to do so, however that "requires" Siri to be act, which I hate. Is there away to use CarPlay without using Siri?

Also, how can one get an operating manual for CarPlay (don't tell me it is intuitive, I have disabilities and what is intuitive to me makes no sense to others and visa versa)?

Ok, I've removed Siri from my phone, how do I add it back to my phone?

General complaint about Apply products: to quote Steve Jobs "features no one wants are not features." I have ADHD, and many of Applies "features" actually reduce accessibility and usability for me. There should be a way to control apps/features that provide complete control to the user at levels way beyond what is currently allowed.

If you thought you were providing feedback to Apple on this forum, you are mistaken. Any comment you get on this forum will be with users only as this is a user to user only forum. Apple isn’t here and isn’t reading these posts for anything other violation of Terms of Use.

Did you read my reply to you to go to Settings > Siri and Search. If that’s not the issue, do the following:

Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy & Content Restrictions > Allowed Apps > Make sure Siri & Dictation is turned on

As to providing feedback to Apple, you can use this link (though Apple won’t respond to you), but I would not expect since Apple is more likely concerned with safety than what individuals may want, that they will not provide the option to turn off Siri when Car Play is being used —> https://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

To the best of my knowledge, it is not possible to "remove" Siri. You can turn it off, but you can not remove it. It is not a separate app that can be deleted, it is integral to the operating system.

If you want total control over your device, it's entirely possible that the iPhone is not the best choice for you.

You will have to examine your options and choose for yourself.

Keep in mind that just because Siri is enabled, does not mean you have to actually use it to interact with the phone in any way.

My response would be pretty much exactly what KiltedTim said. You can’t remove Siri, but you can turn Siri off (not of course if you want to use Car Play). Go to Settings > Siri and Search and turn Siri back on. Oh and Channeling Steve Jobs is ridiculous. Steve was responsible for designing iPhone to be and represent the features he thought we needed and he never cared whether they were what we wanted.

I would also argue that while you may not like Siri, you’d likely be in the minority. I find Siri to be very useful, ESPECIALLY while driving with Apple Car Play. I can simply say “Hey Siri, Call XXXXX” without ever having to touch anything while driving. It;s not only convenient, it’s safer as I never have to remove my hands or eyes from the most important thing I’m doing, which is looking at the road and using the steering wheel.

I'm sorry, but I can't find the controls to Siri on my phone (anywhere) to turn it back on.

For the apps I like, my iPhone is great. However somethings use to be possible but aren't any longer, such as turning of the **** 3D "feature" on Maps. Speaking of Maps, I would love to be able to turn down the frequency of notifications/voice directions. All of these things about controllability are actually intended as feedback to Apply, not really for comment by the general population.

As I replied to KiltedTim, I can't find Siri on my phone (it is not under Settings).

As for how much you like Siri, great use it. I have disabilities, which by definition means I'm a minority, and find it more of a hinderance and hazard then most people. I don't call people while driving, and neither send or receive messages. All I really want is to be able to use maps (does not appear possible without CarPlay in my Honda Fit) and play music (might be possible) off my phone.

If you don’t know the passcode for Screen Time, you will need to erase your phone using your home computer with iTunes. You will NOT be able to restore your phone from backup as the passcode for Screen Time is in the backup and will put you right back where you are.

Use this link to erase your phone using your computer and iTunes —>https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204306
