now that i have paired my watch with my phone, my phone no longer makes a sound when I get a message, etc.??
how do i make sure my alerts still make a sound on my phone now that phone is paired with watch?

When you are wearing an Apple Watch paired to your iPhone, your notifications work differently. If the iPhone is locked, notifications go to the Watch, if the iPhone is unlocked and in use, then notifications go to the phone. That is by design.
