Do I need to keep my IPA files?

Hi,

I have 35GB worth of iOS application .ipa files in the iTunes>Mobile Applications folder of my iMac. Is there any reason why I should not delete them to free up space? I'm not they serve any purpose at all anymore!? The most recent one was created in September 2017.

I'm running macOS Catalina (10.15.2) on a 2017 iMac (Retina 5k).

Using WizTree, I found the following directory "C:\Users\xyz\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\iTunes Media\Mobile Applications" on my SSD. The directory contains a large number of *.ipa.ipa" files with "*" representing names of apps which I once had installed on my iPhone a long time ago (when iTunes was still used to manage apps on the iPhone). This directory uses 3.2 GB of storage. Can I delete this directory (resp. the files within the directory) without risking any malfunctions of iTunes or are there other ways to free up this storage space? Thanks for your help. does removing an app remove all the system files for that app? are files from app installations in many places in the system?

You can delete them. They serve no purpose. I'm not even sure they would be used if you needed to reinstall the apps.
