ipa files obsolete?

My Users->Home->Music->iTunes->Mobile Applications directory contains 248 .ipa files, about 15GB.

They are all at least 6 years old and I'm not sure how they got there.

Can I delete that whole directory?

Those are iOS applications that would have been downloaded to iTunes back when managing/installing iOS apps via iTunes was still possible.

That feature was deprecated quite some time ago. Those files no longer serve a purpose. You can delete them.

The only reason to retain these app files if you have an very old device and the apps are no longer available. I have an original iPad that a lent when I purchased a new one and then I received original iPad later I could not find many apps since I could not longer download most old apps. I wish I would have retain the old .ipa files, especially for Google Maps since it was a cellular iPad.
